There is no better way to refocus than to climb inside the pages of God’s Word and let it fill you up. Let it change you.
I have found that it is easier to not subside to the pull of overwhelming emotions when I spend at least some time in Bible study each day. Climbing into the Word changes your outlook a bit. It helps you to look at your world with an unclouded view. God’s Word is a living breathing book. It will breathe new life into you if you just spend some time within it’s pages. It will drain away the worry and the pain.
I’m currently doing a study on Deuteronomy 28. It lays out God’s blessings for our obedience. While I am doing any study of the Bible I try to not just read it, but to read it and meditate on that same passage until I get something out of it. Until I hear God’s whisper of wisdom that He wants me to take from it right then. Also, I often read several different translations of the same passage to gain a better understanding of what it is saying. Guided studies are also good for when I find it difficult to just jump in and know where to start studying. I am doing The Armor of God study by Priscilla Shirer with some friends at a local church. We come together in the group and watch a video and then there is a workbook with daily study questions. I love to build community through Bible study. You have that common bond to build on and many different perspectives examining the same scriptures. Someone else might notice something that I would have never caught.
The photos on this page show some of my favorite Bibles. And the scripture in the photo below just speaks to me of how it is that the Bible works. How it lives and breathes and digs out the inner most parts of us leaving nothing hidden away. How it meets us right where we are and gives us just what we need. It is absolutely one of my very favorite scriptures. And it just doesn’t sound as beautiful to my ears in any version other than the King James. I urge you to search for Hebrews 4:12 commentaries. You can search for them online. I promise you it is worth the work to really understand this scripture. It was an assignment in a discipleship class I was a part of not too long ago and I often revisit my notes from that study. Anyway, I don’t know what led me off onto the tangent of commentaries but there you go. Hebrews 4:12 just excites me!
There is help for those of us who have trouble maintaining a daily Bible study habit. Check out some of my favorite Bible Study resources below!
Resources:
Rachel’s site is full of Bible study plans and tips. When my ex first left me I knew that I needed to commit to a Bible study plan and so I picked one from this site called from hurting to healing and I led a study. I had never led a study before. It kept me accountable. I sent each day’s scriptures out via text to my group.
My friend Asheritah is leading a 31 day Bible and Breakfast study for the month of October. You can sign up at the bottom of the page to have the study emailed to you each day. While you’re there signing up for the study be sure to look around at all the other great study tips she has on her site!
First 5 is an app from Proverbs 31 Ministries for your android or iPhone. I like it because you can set an alarm inside the app and when you turn off the alarm the day’s devotional automatically pops up on your screen. What could be easier than that?
What are some of your favorite Bible Study resources?
Godspeed,

I love First Five as well. I have learned so much from the studies they have done. I also like the proverbs 31 devotions each day.
Great job on your photo.
Thank you, Amanda! Does Proverbs 31 have another app or do you get them through email?
