Find it in the little things!

August 5, 2014 By mollieh02 4 Comments

God promises His children good things and that he will provide everything we need. That has been an ongoing message in my little corner world this week. It’s what the sermon was about at church Sunday, Matthew 6:24-34. We talked about it in my discipleship group Sunday night. And God has been showing me those good things in small mercies this week.
My boys are 4 and 6 and have been fighting nonstop for weeks now. They are just sick of each other. (Insert lesson on sibling bonding here…) God gave me the gift of VBS this week. Three hours each morning this week free of fighting boys!!! I could hug whoever thought up the idea of VBS right now! They assure me that they don’t want to go back each morning as I drop them off, but they always have fun and there is always more art work to adorn the fridge with.

Today's VBS artwork!

Today during my break I went to Kohl’s in search of pajamas for them. I figure it’s time Lucas stop looking like he’s wearing high waters when he puts on pajama pants. Don’t ya know my Daddy blessed me with 60-80% discount racks full of kids pajamas! Plus there just happened to be a $10 off kids apparel coupon in my Facebook news feed this morning. 🙂 I saved $185 at Kohl’s this morning! I do love that feeling of watching the register total melt away as sales and coupons are taken off!

Next on my agenda for the day was going to pick up my reserved copy   of God’s Not Dead that came out today! I can’t wait to watch it with my   friends in the coming weeks as we find the time in our busy schedules     for fellowship.

And the final stop, so far, on today’s tiny blessings tour is a lunch mostly free of drama. Old El Paso started making nacho cheese taco shells, like the doritos tacos they make at Taco Bell, and my boys LOVED them!!! Score 1 point for mom! Oh I found this crock pot ranch chicken tacos recipe that is sooo good! Find the recipe here!

So you see, none of these things are big things, but they make a big difference in the way my days go.  They are little love letters from the Father to one of His most loved daughters!  He hears my needs, He sees my frustrations and He cares about them all.  He does the same for you.  I bet you can find them.  Look around. What are those little things in your world that God is using to say, “I’m here.  I see you.  I hear you.  I love you. I want good things for you.” Do you see them? Good. Hold onto them. Remember them when you need a reminder of God’s love for you.

Face to face, oh how I long to be….

August 4, 2014 By mollieh02 Leave a Comment

Today I am overwhelmed as I think back to the Garden of Eden.  To Adam and Eve being the only humans to ever walk side by side with God in physical form. They could reach out and touch Him, talk to Him and hear an audible voice in response. They had the privilege to come face to face with Him.  They had a relationship with Him like we have with one another.  I am in awe of that relationship they got to have with God.  Maybe even a little bit jealous of them.
Take a moment and think about what it must have been like to have a physical tangible relationship with God. Are you crying yet? No? Think on it a little harder. Imagine reaching out and touching the maker of all creation.  To actually lay your hand in His.  Talking to Him and hearing His voice.  Standing face to face with Him.
I don’t know about you, but just the thought of it sends tears cascading down my face.  You and I can’t go back to those early days in the Garden and walk with Him, but we will walk with Him one day.

I leave you with this song, that in part captures the absolute awe that the thought of being that close to Him inspires.

Sometimes I like to think God still has the Garden of Eden hidden away in some remote part of the world waiting for the day His children will return to it and walk with Him in relationship like He planned all along.  I can only imagine…

Surrender — Worship Wednesday

July 31, 2014 By mollieh02 4 Comments

Here is a song that has been on my heart tonight and the word I got with it is surrender.

To agree to stop fighting, hiding or resisting.

To completely give up your own will and subject your thoughts, ideas and deeds to to the will and teachings of God.

To surrender.

This is my prayer for each of you tonight, that you live a life with arms high and a heart abandoned.  That you learn to surrender fully to God each and every day.  That you hold nothing back.

Hillsong United

The Stand

You stood before creation
Eternity in your hand
You spoke the earth into motion
My soul now to stand

You stood before my failure
And carried the cross for my shame
My sin weighed upon your shoulders
My soul now to stand

So what could I say?
And what could I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you

So I’ll walk upon salvation
Your spirit alive in me
This life to declare your promise
My soul now to stand

So what could I say?
And what could I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you

I’ll stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the one who gave it all
I’ll stand
My soul Lord to you surrendered
All I am is yours

Godspeed,
Mollie <3
All I am is yours, Lord.

Five Minute Friday — Finish

July 25, 2014 By mollieh02 2 Comments

Five Minute Friday

Finish.

To complete.

To stop doing something.

Some days I long to finish something, anything. There is always one more load of laundry. ( I swear it multiplies in the pile.) One more dish to wash. One more dinner to cook. One more mess to clean up. Truth is we are never finished.
The things I can finish I often wish could go on. When I reach the last page of a book I wish for the next chapter….what happens next? Where do they go from here?

Aren’t you glad that in the same vein, God is never finished with us. Aren’t you glad He doesn’t look down at you and say, “I’ve done all I can with this one. I’m finished.”? He started working in us before we were a glimmer in our parents’ eyes and He doesn’t finish that work until well, ever. Even after we leave this earth he won’t be done with us.

Godspeed,

Nice to meet you! Fun facts about me!

July 24, 2014 By mollieh02 8 Comments

Come on in.  Get comfortable and let’s get to know one another.  I’ll go first.

  • As a kid I wanted to be a librarian.
  • Then a veterinarian.
  • And yet somehow I ended up with two criminal justice degrees, with one of those being in forensics.  I had plans once upon a time to go to the FBI and be a criminal profiler.
  • Now I am a stay at home mommy blogger.  You tracking me?  Yeah, me neither.  The path of life often makes no sense at all.
  • I have a serious lip balm problem.  🙂  I used to make my own!  My current favorite is the EOS sphere balms.
  • All my life I have secretly longed to be a horse girl.  I have always always wanted horses and a ranch.  I found the show Heartland on Netflix recently and that seems like a dream to me.  In that scenario I of course am the horse whisperer….

  • I would rather have print media than digital.
  • Sunflowers and tiger lilies are my favorite flowers.  Tiger lilies grew up and down the sides of the driveway of my childhood home in WV.

  • I have two tattoos and always have the itch to get another.
  • You know those crazy coupon ladies you see with the big binder full of coupons at the grocery store?  Yep, that would be me, and I love it!  It’s a thrill watching the register total go from something you just can’t afford to like $20!
  • I’m from WV and lived there till I was 8.  We then moved to NC.
  • Driving through Times Square in New York City screams freedom to me.  I lived in NYC for  a month one summer.
  • I love to cook, as long as I don’t have to then do the dishes as well.  I have thought of going to culinary school a few times over the years.
  • I love books!  I love how you can open the cover of a new book and be instantly transported to somewhere else, or how a book someone has written can speak from their heart to yours.  There are stacks of books all over my house.  In fact I still have the very first chapter book my mother gave me at age 8.
  • The right song can instantly change my mood.  I almost constantly have a song running through my head and often absently sing it out loud.
  • I also sing along to any song playing, anywhere, whether I know the words or not.
  • My number one dream house feature is that it have a full wall to wall, floor to ceiling library!  I need somewhere to put those stacks of books!

Your turn.  Introduce yourself with a fun fact in the comment section!

This One’s For You– Worship Wednesday

July 24, 2014 By mollieh02 Leave a Comment

Today I got a call for help from a sweet friend who is feeling lost, hopeless, and beat down, tired of fighting and miserable. Today’s Worship Wednesday is dedicated to you. You know who you are.

I urge you to seek God’s face.  He never left you.  Can’t you see Him standing there still, where you let go of His hand.  He is waiting for you to take it up again so that He can continue to walk beside you.  He was there the whole time.  The battle is one that has already been won, so stand up and fight.  Walk beside Him, read His Word, call out to Him in prayer, and meet Him in worship.  The pain and the burdens won’t last forever, and they will only make you stronger.

Godspeed,

Wait

July 22, 2014 By mollieh02 5 Comments

When the world seems too heavy or it seems like God isn’t listening I come to these words and they reassure me, they comfort me, and they soothe my soul.  I hope they do the same for you today.

Wait

by Russell Kelfer

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried;

Quietly, patiently, lovingly, God replied.

I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate…

and the Master so gently said, “Wait.”

“Wait?  You say wait?” my indignant reply.

“Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!

Is your hand shortened?  Or have you not heard?

By faith I have asked, and I’m claiming your Word.”

“My future and all to which I relate

hangs in the balance, and you tell me to ‘Wait?’

I’m needing a ‘yes,’ a go-ahead sign.

Or even a ‘no,’ to which I’ll resign.

“You promised, dear Lord, that if we believe,

we need but to ask, and we shall receive.

Lord, I’ve been asking, and this is my cry:

I’m weary of asking!  I need a reply.”

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate

as my Master replied again, “Wait.”

So I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut,

and grumbled to God, “So, I’m waiting…for what?”

He seemed then to kneel, and His eyes met with mine…

and He tenderly said, “I could give you a sign.

I could shake the heavens and darken the sun.

I could raise the dead and cause mountains to run.

“I could give all you seek and pleased you would be.

You’d have what you want, but you wouldn’t have Me.

You’d not know the depth of My love for each saint.

You’d not know the power that I give to the faint.

“You’d not learn to see through clouds of despair.

You’d not learn to trust just by knowing I’m there.

You’d not know the joy of resting in Me

when darkness and silence are all you can see.

“You’d never experience the fullness of love

when the peace of My spirit descends like a dove.

You would know that I give, and I save, for a start,

but you’d not know the depth of the love of My heart.

“The glow of My comfort late into the night,

the faith that I give when you walk without sight.

The depth that’s beyond getting just what you ask

from an infinite God who makes what you have last.

“You’d never know should your pain quickly flee,

what it means that ‘My grace is sufficient for thee.’

Yes, your dearest dreams overnight would come true,

but, oh, the loss, if I lost what I’m doing in you.

“So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see

that the greatest of gifts is to truly know Me.

And though oft’ My answers seem terribly late,

My most precious answer of all is still, ‘Wait.”

I hope you find comfort in the knowledge that coming to know Him and introducing Him to the world around us is the greatest gift our Father gives us.  Can you imagine the life lived without His companionship?  Without His love?  One where when the darkness closes in, that is all there is?  So, sit back, close your eyes, and be secure in the knowledge that you are His and that He is doing a great work in you.

Godspeed,

Mollie

I Love Cooking!

July 21, 2014 By mollieh02 3 Comments

I love to cook!  Too bad the tiny people I am trying to keep alive don’t think they need to eat to survive.  Some days however, mommy just feels worn out.  Especially after a long weekend of birthday parties, church, discipleship group and driving kids here there and everywhere.  Today is just one of those days.

Enter my absolute favorite kitchen appliance, my crock pot!!!

Today it’s kinda dreary here in the foothills of NC, so I am thinking soup would be excellent tonight.  My crock pot is already going with Clean Out the Pantry Minestrone Soup from Stephanie O’Dea over at A Year of Slow Cooking.  I used navy and great northern beans and added squash, spinach, carrots, a little bit of onion and a clove of garlic as my extra veggies.  Here’s mine:

Minestrone Soup

Looks yummy!  I can’t wait for 8 hours from now!  Now all I need is some crusty french bread to complete my meal.

What are some of your go to crock pot recipes?

Godspeed,

Mollie

What I learned from yesterday!

July 19, 2014 By mollieh02 4 Comments

God used my vast experience of one post to teach me. He showed me how He could use one step of faith, one simple act of obedience on my part to bless me back beyond measure.  30 seconds of insane courage is what it took to push publish on that first post, and then I inwardly grimaced thinking no one would read it.  God used that mere act to give me a glimpse of what can happen when you are faithful to act when He says move.

At the end of the night I had 7 likes on my facebook page, 10 comments on the blog, one email subscriber, oh and someone had shared my post on facebook!  Of those only one blog comment and the 7 facebook likes were from people I knew the rest were perfect strangers until yesterday!

Fireworks

Now these numbers aren’t huge by any means, but to the girl who was sure she didn’t have anything to say that anyone needed to hear, they are something to celebrate!  God rewarded me with so much joy yesterday and words can’t describe how my heart jumped when I read the comment from a women who had been led to my blog by the post on fb!  Some even said they were encouraged by my bravery.  So you see, you never know what you have to say that God will use to help someone else along the way.  Even if it’s just your own story.

I don’t recount my success to pat myself on the back or toot my own horn, but to show you the joy that can come about when you charge forward.  In the midst of a world that says you can’t, God says you can!

What will you do with 30 seconds of insane courage today?  Do you have it?  Good.  Hold on tight.

READY

SET

GO!

Then come back here and tell me about it.  🙂

Godspeed,

Mollie

Five Minute Friday–Bloom

July 18, 2014 By mollieh02 26 Comments

I take the word bloom as a personal challenge.  Today I will bloom where I am.  In the midst of chaos, the bad mood I woke up in due to my children waking me with their fighting, and my personal fears and insecurities.  I will bloom.  This is my first blog post, not just for Five Minute Friday, but my first ever.  I have been putting it off.  Using any excuse I could to make it ok that I wasn’t moving when the Father gave me something to do.  Just one step can set you on a path that you could have never imagined, but you have to take the step before He can bestow blessings on you.  If you refuse to move the Father will move on to someone who will move.  So today I challenge you to take that first step towards obedience, towards the life He wants so badly to give to you.

Bloom

Bloom where you are planted!

It’s not your surroundings that matter, but the willingness of your heart to surrender to His will that makes all the difference.

Godspeed,

Mollie
