Rest {Five Minute Friday}

June 24, 2016 By mollieh02 3 Comments

Today a friend of mine wrote on Facebook, “Sleep doesn’t help when it’s your soul that needs rest”.

I have been plagued with sleepless nights and a restless and burdened heart for weeks now.  I know that when I need rest, not the kind sleep can heal, but the kind that needs a little something else.  When I need rest I can climb into the pages of my Bible and find everything I need.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Father,

I thank you for a heart that has the capacity to love.

But when my heart is burdened and the thoughts won’t stop coming.

When I can’t see the words written on the page through the tears.

Help me to find Your Word that is written on the tablet of my heart.

Help me to climb into Your open arms and draw comfort, rest, and strength from Your Word.

Give me that rest that the world doesn’t understand.

The rest that is afforded only to those who love you.

Give me the strength to walk through the storm.

And give me the comfort of knowing that healing is on it’s way.

I thank you for this heart that has the capacity to love.

And even for the pain that reminds me that I loved somebody well.

In the precious name of Jesus I pray,

Amen

That is my prayer for myself tonight and for any of you who need some help finding rest.  Feel free to change it to fit your needs.

Godspeed,

Mollie  <3

Want {Five Minute Friday}

June 13, 2016 By mollieh02 7 Comments

want need

It’s a funny thing about wants, they can consume you.  I think we often put our wants in the place that our needs should really go.  I can personally attest to this.  My engagement ended a little over a week ago.  His choice not mine.  I could fill this page with the things my broken heart wants.  And those wants, well they feel like needs right now.  It feels like if the universe doesn’t bend to my will in this one area I won’t survive it.  But that’s the thing about wants, they are wants not needs.  This time next year I won’t remember the urgency of these feelings.  Wants evolve grow and change.  They fade away and something new takes their place.  Wants are based on the place we are in life and the circumstances that surround us.  What I want today won’t be what I want next year, next month, next week or maybe even tomorrow.  Wants are fluid and ever changing.  Don’t confuse your wants, no matter how urgent they feel, with your needs.  Remember, God always provides us with everything we need.

Godspeed,

Mollie  <3

Grow {Five Minute Friday}

May 12, 2016 By mollieh02 9 Comments

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,

How does your garden grow?

With silver bells, and cockle shells,

And pretty maids all in a row.

garden2

Most of us can sing along with at least the first two lines of that familiar nursery rhyme.  It is the first thing that came to mind when I heard the word grow.  Now, I have a question for you; “How does your garden grow?”  Seeds have been planted your whole life.  Whether they be through chance encounters, purposeful seeking, or whispered prayers spoken on your behalf.  The waters of God’s Word have rained down upon them.  Do you see the growth?

The second thing that came to mind when I heard the word grow was the parable of the sower found in Matthew 13.

 A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil.  It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.  Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.  Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop– a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.  He who has ears, let him hear.

Matthew 13: 3b-9

I’ll ask again, “How does your garden grow?”  I will admit that lately I’ve let my fleshly situations make my heart that rocky place that seed is planted.  I get really excited for a time, but it never lasts. I have a hard time following through with things, whether it be finishing a Bible study, cultivating a prayer habit, or even just reading my Bible every day.  I long for my heart to be that good soil where God’s Word can settle in and take root.

If you find yourself in the same place I am in then let’s do it together.  Don’t worry too much about tomorrow’s work.  It will take care of it’s self.  Just focus on today.  Today I know you can read a few verses in your Bible.  Today I know you can sit down and pray for one of the people on your prayer list.  Before you know it you will have created that heart that is good soil for God’s Word to grow in!

Godspeed,

Mollie  <3

Miss {Five Minute Friday}

May 12, 2016 By mollieh02 3 Comments

As babies we fight sleep with everything we’re worth because we’re afraid we’ll miss something.  We are so enthralled with everything that we don’t want to miss a second of it.

As adults we miss things simply because we aren’t paying attention.  It’s the loss of that child like sense of wonder for the world around us that causes us to stop paying attention.  In the adult state of mind we are so busy that we miss out on things that our inner child never would have.  We miss opportunities because we are busy looking for something better.  We miss the blessing in the midst of a burden.  We even miss the person sitting right beside us because we are too busy checking social media to see what the rest of the world is up to. I think our biggest miss is when we miss the voice of God whispering into our lives, directing our steps, because we let all of the other competing voices drown out His voice.

So, today I challenge you to slow down and regain some of that childlike sense of wonder.  Turn on your listening ears for that still small voice and open your eyes to the world God created for us.  He has left little love letters all around for you, if only you will slow down long enough to look for them!

Godspeed,

Mollie  <3

Decide {Five Minute Friday}

March 31, 2016 By mollieh02 6 Comments

The chips are down.  The stakes are high.  They don’t get any higher than this.  It’s time to decide.  We all know there are two fighting for dominion over our hearts.  Who are you going to follow?  Are you going to let the Devil lead you down a path of bitterness anger and sin, or are you going to follow God into the light, let Him set your heart ablaze and give you a purpose?  It’s time to decide.  What do you do when you decide to follow God and those old feelings start to well up inside you again, threatening to break loose?  You decide again to follow God, that’s what you do.  It’s a day by day decision you have to make for awhile.  Sometimes it’s a minute by minute decision.  It won’t always be that hard.  As your faith is strengthened it becomes easier to shake off the old and step into the new.

Forget {Five Minute Friday}

February 25, 2016 By mollieh02 1 Comment

Forget.  It would be a wonderful gift be able to forget.  Forget words spoken in anger.  Forget words spoken out of hurt and pain.  Forget ones miss-steps along the way.  Forget those areas of life where we look back and think, “If only I had made a different decision…”  But we can’t forget.  I think the key to getting past the things we can’t forget is forgiving.  Forgiving others, forgiving ourselves and begging for forgiveness from God.  Then you get up and walk on, remembering those places without the pain attached.  Remembering the lessons those places taught us along the way.  No, we can’t forget, but we can move forward, remembering the lessons of the past.

Godspeed,

Mollie  3

Focus {Five Minute Friday}

February 11, 2016 By mollieh02 2 Comments

Do you find it hard to focus?  Or maybe just hard to focus on the positive on any given situation?  I tend to air on the side of focusing way too much on the negative aspects of my days.  If there is something negative to be taken away from any given situation I can definitely tell you what it is.  Knowing that I am this way should make it easier to shift my focus right?  Well, not so much as it turns out.  In my 30 something odd years I have only found one surefire way to change my focus.  That’s God.  In the beginning of the year I started a Bible study that focuses in on Bible memorization.  The idea is you memorize five verses a week by reading them 5 times each twice a day.  Let me tell you that on the weeks where I have really stuck to it and spent that time focusing in on God’s Word, the days have seemed lighter, the weight of the world didn’t weigh so heavily on my shoulders.  I will confess that I haven’t done so well with it in the past couple weeks.  I can tell the difference, so today I am trying a little harder to focus in on that Word, to let it shift my focus, change my perspective.

What are some things that help you change your focus?

Godspeed,

Mollie  <3

Quiet {Five Minute Friday}

February 4, 2016 By mollieh02 1 Comment

I thrive in the quiet.  A lot of noise overwhelms me and leaves me feeling stressed out a lot of the time.  But I thrive in the quiet, and I prefer the quiet of night to the quiet of day.  There’s something about the world sleeping around me, with no chance of interruption, that I find peaceful.  In the still of the night I find it easier to focus in on what needs to be done be that writing, doing dishes, or folding laundry.  In the quiet I find it easier to listen as well.  I find it easier to listen for the voice of God, to listen for His instruction, to listen to Him tell me the next step I am supposed to take.  In the quiet I find it easier to let Him fill me back up after a draining day or week or month or even year.  Psalms 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.”  So, I urge you to bask in the quiet times with Him and listen as He whispers all His plans for you in your ear.  Be still and know that He is God!

Godspeed,

Time {Five Minute Friday}

January 14, 2016 By mollieh02 14 Comments

GO–

Do you have the time?  Time can be a precious commodity.  How do you spend your time.  Wisely?  I am not the best steward of time myself.  I waste more than I care to mention.  I spend it on frivolous things.  Facebook, tv and pinterest takes up most of my wasted time and sleep too sometimes.

I want to redirect my time, but the want and the action behind it aren’t quiet meeting up just yet.  I want to spend my time with the little eyes looking back at me that beg me to play games with them.  I want to spend my time reading my Bible and praying, or simply resting in God’s presence.  I want to spend time getting lost in the pages of the piles of books that surround me.  I want to spend my time building relationships and laughing.

One day at a time I’m working on spending my time on things that will be worthy of being remembered when my time has run out.  I don’t want to be remembered for my online presence, but for my actual presence.  Time is precious.  Time is wasting.  Time is running out.

First {Five Minute Friday}

January 14, 2016 By mollieh02 Leave a Comment

This week’s Five Minute Friday prompt is rather fitting as this is my first blog post of 2016!

GO–

Our lives are filled with firsts.  First steps, first love, first kiss, first job, first baby.  Those are the big ones that we expect to come, but then there are the ones we are less aware are coming. The first Bible verse that takes ahold of your heart, or the first time you step out on faith into what you feel God calling you to.  Firsts come with great big expectations and sometimes the realization of dreams. Sometimes firsts teach us that when we fall down or fail at something that we should get back up and try again.

Fork2

The first verse that really took ahold of my heart has been a favorite ever since that day.  Jeremiah 29:11 holds all the promises of a life that is held firmly in God’s hands and I am grateful that He gave me that very special first to remind me that He’s got this.  That even when I have no idea where to go from here, He knows where I’m heading.
